A big whitetail deer buck standing in old field habitat exhibits Flehmen response behavior (lip curl). This type of behavior occurs after the buck uses his mouth to collect scent from doe urine on the ground. Curling lips back brings the scent to his nose, which allows him to determine if the doe is in estrus.
